Finally watched Atlantis and am able to post about it.

The beginning? Pure comedy. I LOVED it. I love love love McKay. And Sheppard gave him the eyebrow! Because he knows they were naughty and that he is going to get spanked by Weir for being naughty with McKay! *bounces*

Okay, enough with the shallowness.
Though this ep was rather plotless, it was interesting in other perspectives.
It made me realize that the inhabitants of Atlantis are living in a very closed society. As in, there is no one else. Especially now that they got rid of Teyla's people.
And we are already getting glimpses of the problems that will arise because of that. Already there seem to be inconsistencies in the power structure. There is no clear chain of command, and it is only a matter of time until the first people start to not only question Weir's decisions, but do something about it.
At the moment they are all happy to be in Atlantis and to have all the cool ancient toys to play with. They all knew about the possibility that they wouldn't return, but it is one thing to know it intellectually, another to live it.
Weir said, she cannot afford to lose the hope of getting home (or something like that), and that kind of sums it up. As soon as they begin to realize that they won't return, their society will begin to break apart.
With no possiblity to return home, the laws from home don't apply. The contracts don't apply, Who cares if they have sworn to follow Weir's orders, if there is no judge to hold them to it?
Who cares about the military chain of command, if you can't get court-martialed anymore? Sgt. Bates was downright insubordinate, and they haven't even been there all that long.
It's Lord of the Flies all over again, and I can only hope that the writers of the show see that as well.

Other things I noticed while I watched "Suspicion" (yes, I'm a geek and take notes)
- McKay got hurt again. Please don't let him become the fandom woobie. Please.

- The sky in the background of Sheppard and Teyla in the beginning looked ridiculously fake. Couldn't they at least try to move the clouds a little bit?

- How do they know if the gate leads to a gate on a planet or if it leads to a gate in space, in which case they'd have to take a puddlejumper? They can't have enough MALPs to try every time.

- It was said that they could only brig one personal item to Atlantis. Seeing that we have shipped whole rockets through the gate (Red Sky), I don't really understand that. They could have taken a suitcase like everyone else and put the rest of the stuff into big containers. Instead all they had were these tiny backpacks, that wouldn't hold the stuff I need to a weekend. And, if they could only bring one personal item, who brought all the candles?

- Teyla's people (they have a name, but I couldn't be bothered to learn it yet) said that they are guest in Atlantis. Why? Atlantis doesn't belong to the SGC people. It's not a colony. Her people could just take over part of the city and claim it for themselves.

- Sheppard said "You are like a kid." to Rainbow. He finds him annoying. and Rainbow sucked up to him by offering him a sandwich and by trying (and failing) to be funny and smart. Actually, if there is going ot be unrequited love and Rainbow gets rejected by Sheppard a lot, I may rethink my opinion about Sheppard. I may start to like him, if he only suffers enough.

- They found land! It's Columbus Sheppard and his loyal follower Rainbow Ford!

- McKay was so geeky when he asked aboout the size of the land they discovered. And yet he is not. "15 million square miles, that as big as...". He didn't know! Sam would have known. Sam would also have known what the thing McKay discovered in the beginning of the ep was for, because Sam never says: "I don't know, I'm seeing it for the first time" in that bitchy McKay voice. Which explains why they were so attracted to each other back on earth.
For your information: 15 million square miles are roughly the size of the ozone hole over the antarctic, or the surface of the moon, or the continent of North America. (*thinks* They may have said 50 million, but who cares)

- This isn't exactly news, but something made me think about it again: there are several explanations why the universe's favourite language is english. Most of these theories even make some sense. Has anyone ever tried to explain why the language didn't change over the years? I mean, compare the UK and the US, and language-wise you could think they were on different planets sometimes. So, any thoughts on that? Apart from the "it would be abd for the artings if people needed an interpreter to watch the show"?

- I didn't find Teyla as annoying as usual. I still hate her hair, but I liked how she ignored Sgt. Bates when she was talking to Weir. And now that she is all alone in Atlantis, seperated from her people... Weir can comfort her, they can talk about girl stuff and men, one thing will lead to another...Femslash anyone? Oh, I forgot that people hate Weir and Teyla, so I guess I can't hope to see much of that pairing.

- The gate. I like the earth gate better. It is a lot more impressive and beautiful. This gate somehow seems like the earth gates little brother - cool with the tech stuff, but too short to introduce to your friends. I wonder if they can dial that gate by hand, a feature which turned out to be useful quite often for SG-1.

- Sheppard is becoming AlphaJohn. Mmm, I like that.

And a tiny little thought about the preview for next week: No one older than 25? I've watched that ep already! Oh no, wait, that was Farscape. See, professional wrieters aren't more original thatn fanfic writers either.
