...before I leave:

Is there a Harry/Snape story where Snape starts something with Harry not because he likes him, but to corrupt him, to make the famous Harry Potter fall in love with him and have him disappoint everyone else (Dumbledore, Weasleys, rest of magic world), in other words, and then when his plan works, he finds he has fallen in love with Harry himself? Bonus points if their relationship is finally revealed and everyone reacts exactly they way Snape wanted them to react, by being disappointed in Harry, by not understanding and by blaming Snape for corrupting poor Harry.

Help?

1) Meet Gus the Mini Dachshund
(What? Surely I don't need a reason to post links to puppy pictures?)

2) I got carded today. Just to remind you, I turned thirty not even two weeks ago, but they still think I shouldn't be allowed to play the lottery. They may be right, but it still totally made my day.

3) I bought the apple component av cable for my beloved MetalliPod. Now I'm thinking that I may have been better of with the analog cable, because it will be comptaible with more tvs. Anyone got any experience with this?

4) I've been mainlining HP slash these last days, so much so that I've even forgot to watch House until 3 in the morning every night. (do you know how long it takes to watch three entire seasons of a show when you never come home before 9.30 p.m.? and while we are at it, do you think I could successfully sue amazon for offering three-season-dvd packs, since they are clearly meant to steal my life, and how many DVDs could I buy with the compensation I got if I won the claim?) Anyway, Harry Potter. I have learned that I cannot stay in front of the computer forever, since I sometimes have to get up and eat, or go to the bathroom, and other stupid things. I'm trying my best though.

My current dealer in all things HP/SS is [livejournal.com profile] regan_v, but if any of you got Harry/Snape recs for me, I'd be grateful. I already fear the day when I have read through all of Regan_v's recs.
At least I have House to fall back to, if my HP sources dry out.

5) Off to see the wizard now, in other words, I'm trying out a new horseriding place. Wish me luck!

All of the Above
HP a fandom that's not easily accessible to me in many way: the medium itself (one more reason to like the audio books), the fact that there are more pairings (and kinks) than flavors of Bertie Bott's beans and all of them seem to have serious followers, and the fact that many of the archives are locked, hidden or just disappearing. Not to mention the tale of the WIP, which have developed a life of their own in HP fandom, living happily ever-unfinished in the forbiiden forest, where they will grab you and draw you in and then leave you unsatisfied and in despair until the end of your days.

This will likely be my only or one of very few HP themed entries this year. Because of what I said above, I don't often indulge myself in HP. But when I do, I really do. This is one of those times, and I thought I should at least post about it.

(Harry/Snape recs, old or new, are always welcome, btw.)

Your Score: Squib

You scored 36% Slytherin, 20% Ravenclaw, 16% Gryffindor, and 32% Hufflepuff!

Are you sure that you belong at Hogwarts? You show no defined personal characteristics and therefore no house preference. Perhaps you should seriously consider a lucrative career in dentistry or tax preparation -- or allow the Sorting Hat to redetermine your place at a later date.

Link: The Sorting Hat Test written by leeannslytherin on OkCupid Free Online Dating, home of the The Dating Persona Test

Apparently, I'm not meant to be in Hogwarts at all. On the other hand, this is the result I got when I skippedthe question of which House I want to be in. If I choose that I want to get into Slytherin, I score significantly higher (56%) on Slytherin. If I choose Gryffindor, still a squib.
Yep, I can just see myself sitting there with that stupid hat on my first day.

Hat: "Either you choose Slytherin or you'll go home."
Me: "But I don't want to live in the dungeons!"
My plan for Saturday was:
- buy book as soon as Hugendubel opens
- buy food on market, possibly reading at the same time, if market is not too crowded
- read
- meet people to watch Christopher Street Day Parade
-read
-go horseriding
-read

Instead I did this
- crawled out of bed an hour after Hugendubel opened
- bought book
- crawled through market, feeling sick at thought of food
- read 50 pages
- feel sick
- read ten more pages
- sleep
- read another ten pages
- again with the sick
- and the sleep

NO FUN AT ALL!
I managed to finally make it through the book at about 11.30 p.m., cuase it's Harry Damn Potter, and I'll be damned if I don't read that book on the day it is released, and which - considering that I slept all day - is quite alright. But it would have been more fun it I hadn't fallen asleep all the time.

My reaction (completely unspoilery, but I know how some of you are. Including myself.) )
Three years ago, when I was really into Harry Potter, I was still reading WIPs. Nowadays I get a desire for HP about once a year, frantically devouring everything that has been recced in the meantime. But back then, I was a good little fan, read everything ever published (well, almost), and what I couldn't read I'd save to my HD to read later. I also marked WIPs as WIPs and made notes about them, so I'D know what was going on, later, when the next part was released.

Later is now.

For the past few days I've been going through old HP fic that has been collected on my HD, unread or marked WIP. I read some, I deleted a lot (it's so easy: rape? -delete, Remus/Sirius? - Delete, "Harry looked at the long, greasy hair of his lover."? - Delete, Twinkly Dumbledore eyes? -DELETE DELETE DELETE.) And noe I've reaced the WIPs.

There is one (and I won't say whose it is, cause I'm reading this authors journal, and while I doubt she's reading mine, I've long since learned that the fandom world is small): I've read the first part in July 2003. The second part has not been written yet, but on her website it says "TBA". Well, I'm not holding my breath.

Other authors WIPs have at least disappeared from their websites, so readers know they will never be finished again, something I suspect about most WIPs in the first place.

Then there is the most famous WIP of the time, with it's own update list (I think I remember it had well over a 1000 members back then), "The Mirror of Maybe" by Midnight Blue. My WIP folder holds 18 chapters, but what do my sore eyes find when I look for her website? Three years later, just this January, a nineteenth chapters has been added! What an earth-shattering event!
I, for one, am not going to wait another three years for the next chapter. Mrs. Rowlings writes whole books in the same time.

The moral of the story is: I have never read another WIP after I "left" Harry Potter fandom and I never will.
Unless it is written by Martha.

I just watched a most charming little british movie called "Kinky Boots".

It's about a man who tries to save his shoe factory by producing kinky boots for men with the help of a drag queen, and it was entertaining, funny, well-produced and full of talented, motivated actors, good music and sexy shoes. Yep, the only word I can find for it is charming. If you don't know what to watch, I can only recommend this movie. I found it very entertaining.

One of the main parts was played by Chiwetel Ejiofor, and yes, I only give you this information so I can write his name. I mean, when does one get the chance to say Chiwetel Ejiofor.
*tries*
Okay, so I don't actually know how to say it, but I'm sure it would be fun.

Please ignore the rant under the cut. It has nothing to do with the rest of this entry. Thank you. )

Did you miss me?

I'm on a break. A study break. See me study.

*studies*

In between studying and almost not reading my flist, I read a wonderful Sports Night fic which left me with a big smile on my face and in my heart, so I just had to share it with you. Cause it's Wednesday (I think), and everyone needs some happiness on a Wednesday. Read

Gynecology by Charlemagne

and feel the SN love. Yes yes, SN, it's Sports Night, not Supernatural. Just so you know. It's driving my crazy, all that SN on my flist that turns out to be fic about yet another show that will give me issues about brother slash. I'm still in denial about Numb3rs.

Speaking of Numb3rs: Larry is the cutest thing ever. EVER. I LOVE Larry. He and Charlie should marry.

In other news, I watched Harry Potter IV: It was excellent and I'll watch it again tomorrow. But I have a confession to make, more of an unpopular fannish opinion:

Daniel Radcliffe = worst actor ever. If he wasn't in so many scenes, I'd close my eyes whenever his face is shown.

Also: Kevin Costner = still sexy.

I guess everyone interested in Harry Potter has seen these already, but if you haven't yet, what are you waiting for?

FREAKING HUGE Spoiler for the new Harry Potter. Do NOT click on this link if you haven't read the new Harry Potter and you don't want to be COMPLETELY spoiled for it. I think if I warn you any more than this, your heads are going to explode.

*continues to laugh*
Some of these are just too good.

I have reached page 421. And - though what I'm going to say isn't a spoiler per se (but be warned and read at your own risk, that's what the cut is for) , I will from now on place everything that has even remotely to do with the book, under a cut marked Harry Potter )

Got up at six, had the book at seven. There were prezzies with the book, a key chain and a ruler, which I would totally have bought for the ridiculous price they are asking for HP merchandise, cause I'm feeling light-headed and very very fannish.

Got coffee at SF Coffee Company, started reading on my way home.

Bought breakfast, because even I cannot survive on love and Harry Potter alone.

Now me and my brand new Harry Potter will spend the rest of the day on my balcony, and you won't see me until I have read the book and downloaded all the other goodies of this weekend. Spoil me and you are dead. I won't spoil you either.

To pass the time and give me something to look at when I come back, here's a little poll. I know you love them.

...was the subject of today's best spam. For a moment, I thought it was one of you guys sending me pics of naked Ben Browder.

Lately, I haven't felt very...very what? That's the problem really, I don't feel like anything. I don't want to go out, I don't want to talk to people, I don't feel like I have anything to post about. Then it occured to me that I didnt have any actualy work in the last days, so now I'm sitting here, trying to work on a file, and, surprise! I feel like procrastinating posting.

Not that I have anything to post about, since I haven't been doing much. Well, I went out a lot, but my private life is so boring that I'ms ure no one wants to hear about it.
So, why don't I give you an update on my current fannish obsessions, and what I'm doing with them?

A trip through the unhealthy amount of fandoms [livejournal.com profile] oceana_ is currently spending more or less time in:

Let's start with Stargate... )

CSI )

CSI Miami )

Due South )

Harry Potter )

The Sentinel )

X-Files )

Buffy/Angel )

Hard Core Logo )

Andromeda )

Queer as Folk US )

I guess I'll have to continue this in part 2.

When did you first discover Harry Potter?:
Shortly before book four came out. I heard about it before, but I didn't think to read it. But that summer I was working on the farm (don't ask) and I was bored one evening. A friend had book two, and that was it. I did not talk again with people until I finished it.

clickyclick, if you want to know more about my obsession with Harry Potter )
They are showing a Harry Potter Triple the night before the official start, and then again on Sunday.
And. I. don't. have. time.
*hates her life*

Hmm. But the first movie sucked anyway. And it is in German. So I guess I'll survive missing it. I am going to call my HP RL friend (yes? I have real life friends who are crazy about Harry Potter!), and ask her she wants to rent the CoS DVD and watch it before the movie, then we will at least have a HP double.

I am also afraid that I will get drawn into HP slash again. I had a serious HP phase last year, when the fifth book was released. And I have more than 600 fic ssaved on my HD that I want to read one day. Well, I hope most of them aren't good, so I can throw them out after a few sentences, because otherwise I'll spend the rest of my life trying to cath up on HP slash fiction. But I am feeling the excitement already. Maybe I should read the first three books again, so that I can complain about the movies and about how much they left out?
Though I am actually optimistic about that movie, the trailers were very nice. And Hermione is so pretty! I think I have a crush on Hermione. Bad me. But she is so pretty.
And there'll be Lucius-y goodness. Mmm, Lucius.
Need to get more HP icons.

Can it be June already? How long is it till June? Now? How long do I have to wait? When...
(My parents loved having me in the car during long trips...)

I just discovered something very scary.
If you enter "Harry Potter" in lj's interest search, it returns 500 communities. 500!!!
They have a community just to keep track of their communities!
So scary.

I know that many of you aren't Harry Potter fans, but [livejournal.com profile] somniesperus asks for hot fics here, and you can all go there and anonymously throw in some random Stargate fics. Spread the love.
And you might want to check out other people's favourites, even if they are Harry Potter. People rec some damn hot stories over there.
Of course, anybody who knows me and my fandoms just a bit will immediately know what I wrote, so I guess I am outing myself by sending you over there.
*blushes a little*
Have fun!
The truth about all those Mary Sues in HP fandom.
It is too fucking hot. Hot. HOT. AAAAHHHHH!
It doesn't even cool off in the night anymore!

Meanwhile, I keep having these visions of Daniel and Snape. And then Jack. Jack and Snape fighting over Daniel. Anything that involves two of them and hot sweaty sex. Or maybe the three of them.
See, I have this idea for a crossover. What if Voldemort is a Goa'uld? Because he does try to become a god-like person in the wizard world. It makes sense. To me.
I blame the heat.
