A year ago, on February 6th 2003, I read my first Stargate SG-1 slash story.
I started reading Stargate because I had noticed Stargate recs on some of my favourite recs sites, and Stargate stories by some of my favourite authors, so I decided to give it a try, even though I have never been a scifi fan. I read the first stories when I hadn't even seen the show, and I had to look at pictures to even imagine the characters. Fortunately, Stargate was being shown in German TV at the time, and so I started watching. The first episode I saw was "Foothold", and it was a little confusing with everyone looking like everyone else, but Daniel and Jack were pretty together in the sun.
Next step was ebay, where I bought videos, and that was it: instant addiction. It got worse when I got my LJ, and met all these other wonderful Stargate addicts (yes, I'm looking at you).
And after a year, the love is still going strong. Sometimes I spend a day without anything Stargate related, but it doesn't happen often. I moved on from the first months, where it was all Stargate and nothing else, and went back to some of my "older" fandoms, and I also managed to get some new ones (as if I need more), but I can't seem to get enough of Jack, Daniel, Sam and Teal'C, so I always come back to them.

And to celebrate this event, I decided to list some of my favourite Stargate stories.
This list isn' a list of recs, and it is far from being exclusive or complete. Lots of wonderful stories won't be mentioned. To give you an impression of the amount of Stargate fic I read during the last year, let me tell you that I save every "good" story that I read, not just the excellent ones, but also the ones that were "alright", just solid fiction. I even save stories that I don't agree with, because sometimes there is a moment that won't leave me alone, or a scene that I liked and that I might want to read again. Today, I have 439 stories saved on my computer. Considering that I also watched every single Stargate episode and most of them twice in the last year, I wonder how I even managed to graduate from University, let alone get the good grade I got. Hm.
Anyway, the stories I will list aren't meant to be the "best" though most of them belong in that category.
They are a list of stories that left an impression on me, be it because of their setting, or because of a certain moment. Things I think about when I think about Jack and Daniel. Moments that haunt me (in a good way).
I will tell you why those stories left an impression, or which scene is one that I can't stop thinking about. And because this will inevitably involve spoilers, I'll give you a list of links first, and then the explanation.
So I suggest that you read the stories first (in case you don't know them already), unless you want to get spoiled. And that could also include spoilers for the end. Consider yourselves warned.

I don't know why, but I frequently think about the lizard scene. Maybe because it is so absurd that I just can't forget it.
Martha - Sinner's Grove
One of my absolute favorite stories ever, in any fandom. Everything about this is perfect. I must have read this story five or six times already, and I feel a certain urge to read it again. Like, right now.
Meridian - Human touch
Oh, guilty pleasure! I love the whole idea of the story, but the part that I remember most is this:
Carter stepped back, first tossing his shades aside and then reaching for the buttons on his uniform jacket. When he would have shrugged it off, she stopped him with a hand on his shoulder.
"Keep it on." She opened his shirt and ran her hands down his chest, fingers sliding through his chest hair slowly.
In uniform? Cool. He could so do that. This is so sexy. *happy sigh*
Janis Cortese - Animal Husbandry Het sex! And it is so good, so incredibly good, it hurts. No hearts and flowers there, I'm afraid.
Meridian - Last Man on Earth
The whole story is beautiful, one of my favourite SG stories ever, but this is the scene makes it even more special:
So he kept talking. "Then, maybe we could have tried the marriage deal." Jack could feel his cheeks heat up. "Maybe if everything worked out, I could have done the stay-at-home dad thing... Maybe when all was said and done, I'd have been the General's husband." Looking down, Jack could remember how badly he'd wanted that, truly wanted it. And now he didn't anymore.
"It's not going to happen like that, is it?" Sam asked with little emotion, and Jack could not read her tone.
"No." He shook his head sadly. "No, it's not. And I'm so sorry."
Beautiful.
I highly recommend all of Meridian's fic. And she is writing Harry Potter now! *happy dance*

Great story. Must have read it ten times. The scene where Jack tries to get hard so that Carter can give him a blowjob and Daniel takes over gets me every time.
Destina - Ciphers
I absolutely adore this story. The idea is wonderful and scaring, and I can honestly say that I have never read anything like it before.
Anais -Mandragora
Jack has sex with two Daniels. Need I say more?
Anais - Noli me tangere
This could be TMI, but I so want someone to do that to me. Hot!

just makes me happy. :-)
Julian Lee - Some Long-Lost Rockwell
"You and Janet have what Sara and I could never make work, that's all. For cryin' out loud, Carter, hold still. I can't help you if you don't hold still."
"I don't want you to help me!" A vicious jerk, and her foot was almost free. "And don't envy us, Colonel." A stab of memory, Janet pinning her to the chair, her furious violent fingers and her punishing teeth, and Sam pulled too hard, ended up sprawled across the soaking ground. "Jesus, sir, don't envy us."
Pepe - Too Serious Too Soon
This is a WIP, and it took me a long time to decide if I wanted to list it here. Thing is, it isn't particularly good. It's one of the stories where I think: Who are these people that look like Jack and Daniel and have hot sex in their bodies, but clearly their personalities were exchanged?
But that's the point: hot sex. And it is hot. Very hot. The scene on the roof? Very very hot.
I warn you about this story, it is extreme. And the sequel is very very weird. So read at your own risk.
Celtic Angel - Descend Again
Who would have thought me - Jack O'Neill - hard ass military Colonel would ever be staring at an archaeologist's feet as though they were the most beautiful things in the world - both of them. And toes! Oh my God - toes! Would you just look at those toes? I slowly tilt my head from one side to the other trying to see them all.
Awww. The cutest Daniel descends story ever.
Danvers - A Christmas Wish
Maybe I just like the idea of a drunk Daniel in Hammond's kitchen.
Destina - Bright Chains
Jack stopped at the door and looked at Teal'c. "No one goes inside," he said, though it didn't need saying. "Even if he..." Visions of holding Daniel down, of stifling his protests, flashed through his mind's eye, and he winced.
Jack's willingness to rape Daniel of that's what it takes to save his life is a perfect example of Jack's ability to make the right decision at all costs.
Cori Lannam - Things he remembers
I said this before: this is the best Daniel-descending fic ever. I dont care what other people write in the future, I don't think it can be any better than this.
"Yeah," Jack agreed, but he caught Daniel's arm before he could move away. "Daniel, wait."
And then Jack was kissing him again, fierce and thorough. When he let go, Daniel could only stare, slack-jawed with surprise. Jack shrugged. "If this is only chance I'm going to get.... Well, you can't blame a guy."
"You love me," Daniel blurted.
Maayan -System of a down
Another case of: I have never read anything like this before. Read ot yourself, I can't explain what attracts me so much to this story.
Juliette - While he was gone
I slept with Daniel.
I didn't mean to. It just sort of--happened.
God, that sounds awful. How does that sort of thing just sort of happen? We were standing around naked and I slipped and fell on his dick?
It's Daniel/Sam, and I think it was the first het story I read in this fandom. Don't look at me like that, it's Area52! Give it a try!
Lady of Shalott - Objectives
The second orgasm took him by surprise, and when he finished with that, Daniel leaned over, snug against his back, and whispered urgently, "Can I come in you?" Jack shuddered all over and that turned out to be all the answer that Daniel could wait for, which was actually more than okay, because it was nice to know he wasn't the only one completely out of control in this bed.
Quercus - Burqua
"Teal'c," O'Neill called, and Teal'c rose, Sam scrambling to follow him. "You'll need to hold Daniel."
Another one of Jack/s decisions, and it breaks me just as it breaks Daniel. Beautiful scene. Read the story notes fot his, you can find them under the "What's new section" of Quercus's site.
Quinn - Echo of Freedom
This story kept haunting me, so I went back and read it again after the first time. Something about the hopelessness of Daniel's situation, the conflicting emotions, his need for survival touches me deep inside, and moves me to tears at some parts. Very interesting story.
Sidra Vitale - Apres vie
It breaks me. Again and again.

I like to see Sam written as a woman, and not just some sexless best friend of Daniel who is only needed to get him together with Jack.
