So, of course I read spoilers, 'cause I'm a spoiler whore and can't help myself.
And I read episode reviews, things other people said, who had already seen the ep when I was still fighting with Bittorrent. (Did I mention that, instead of downloading "Evolution 2" during the night, so I could have Stargate-y goodness in the morning, Bittorrent crashed, and my whole computer was a mess?)
Anyway. Reading other people's thoughts, I got the impression that this was a Jack/Sam ep.
Hm.
Jack/Sam subtext? I admit that I had never seen subtext between the two, though I won't deny that I noticed the show's blunt attempts to make us believe these two were interested in each other.
But I was wrong. Because in Evolution Part 2, there is subtext. Jack/Sam subtext. A whole lot of Jack/Sam subtext. At least in the two scenes they had with each other. For those of you who missed the subtext, I will write it out:

Jack/Sam conversation in the beginning, after Jack is told by General Hammond that he is allowed to rescue Daniel from, hm, wherever he is.

SAM: Sir?

No, there is no subtext in "Sir". Unless they are going for something kinky. And it is only kinky when Daniel says "Sir". Not when Sam does it.
JACK: I'm going after Daniel.
SUBTEXT: I'm sorry, Sam, but I love him, and I have to go. I can't lose him again.
SAM: Good.
SUBTEXT: You are still a damn good looking bastard, but I understand, and I'm long over you anyway. And Siler actually KNOWS how to build a nuclear reactor with shoelaces and a chewing gum, so there.
JACK: This other missionÂ…
SUBTEXT: That thing that was between us...?
//even in subtext Jack doesn't finish his sentences! Okay, he just wants to find out if Sam is still interested, because now that Daniel is even more beautiful then he was two years ago, Jack's ego is a little fragile. Men!//

SAM: Shouldn't be a problem Sir. When do you leave?
SUBTEXT: Really, I'm over you. I mean it. Now leave.
JACK: Now.
Now.
SAM: Good luck.
SUBTEXT: I really hope that you find him, he is good for you, and everyone can see how much you love him.
O'NEILL: You too.
I think he really wants to wish her good luck for her mission, and probably for the rest of her life. Who knows? Men!

See, there was a lot of subtext between them!

What is worrying me more is the subtext between Jack and Hammond.
JACK: So we send a team in to extract them? We've done it before.
SUBTEXT: I really need to have him back, it would kill me to lose him again, and I killed to save people who meant a lot less to me before.
HAMMOND: //says things about Presidents and international accidents, nobody cares//
JACK: thank you Sir.
SUBTEXT: Thank you for understanding what he means to me, and for trying everything to help us
HAMMOND: I'll let you know the second I hear anything.
SUBTEXT: I know that you worry, and I know how you feel about him, and I will do everything I can to get him back, but it isn't my decision.

So Hammond knows about Jack and Daniel. It seems like a good thing, but it is one of the things I hate when it happens in fanfiction. The twinkling, wise and understanding General Dumbledore Hammond, who accepts that one of his subordinates breaks the law and risks a court-martial.
No. Just no.
So maybe he knows about them. I can live with that. But he wouldn't let them know that he knows.
I know, I'm overreacting a little, the scene is rather harmless, and can certainly be interpreted differently. *g*

Next we switch to some food play. But not in a good way. No chocolate sauce is involved, only a dirty, sweaty (sexy) Daniel, and someone eating in front of him. We find out that he hasn't had food and water for two days. Poor Daniel.
Then Daniel gets tortured with electricity, but they don't show us that. No, they show us every h/c writers dream: an unconsciuos, battered and bruised Daniel who is carried into a hut and thrown to the ground. Though h/c writers usually place Jack in the hut, for the comfort element of the h/c. Someone should tell the Stargate writers how it is done, cause they obviously don't know.

Dr. Lee is taken and tortured, but nobody wants to see that, so we switch to a very interesting scene in the briefing room.
In fact, it was so interesting that I can now totally understand why Jack often looks so spaced out when he listens to Carter.
I had to go back, because I missed what they said the first time, and it didn't get better the second time. Maybe they should have naked male table dancers to make the briefings more interesting.

At least it gave me time to think about how much I don't like Jacob Carter. I used to like him. I think I even mentioned in my last episode review how much I like the Carters working together. But that was way back in Season 4/5, and those times are over. Jacob has become a real Tok'Ra. He is incredibly arrogant, always pointing out the physical superiority his symbiote gives him, and how he is the only one capable of doing things because of his oh-so-advanced technology. Well, you can't really blame him: being forced to wear those clothes has to affect one's personality some day.
But there was Bra'Tac, and I still love Bra'Tac, so I didn't mind too much. Except that now I have Bra'Tac/Jacob D/s ideas in my head, which just establishes that I'm a true pervert. Go away, mental image, get out of my J/D brain!
Am I the only one who ever thought about that? Come on, I know there are other perverts on my friends list! I hope.

Cut, and we move to Honduras, Jack speaks spanish, meets an old buddy, wears a shirt that could be used as a weapon. Someone should teach that guy how to dress in civilian clothes. Why do writers always make fun of Daniel's bad taste in clothes? Remember the beige sweater? Remember what he wore in "Absolute Power"? Hell, remember that shirt he wore in "The Changeling"?? I think it's safe to say that he has excellent taste in clothes, and the only time I remember him wearing plaid was in "Holiday", and that wasn't him, just someone using his body. (though I could think of better things to use this body for. *sigh*)

The old buddy of Jack is called Burke, and he has been left in the sun too long. I didn't find him funny, actually he was rather annoying, but I enjoyed hearing a little bit more about the not so nice parts of Jack's background.
And he gave the Jack the opportunity to go all Alpha, saying things like "chain of command" and "You are just the guide", and when he does that I get this tingly feeling, and it makes me very happy.

Meanwhile, things happen with Sam and Jacob Carter, and Teal'C! Yes, that's right, Teal'C! I almost forgot about him, seeing that he had only three lines in the whole ep. But he was there, and Jacob dressed up as a super soldier, which made him look like one of the Lucky Luke bad guys (the chin!). But we really want to go back to Jack and Daniel and see them touch each other, so I'll skip that part.

We shortly go back to Jack and that Burke guy, who compare guns, because it's all about the guns. Jack's gun looks bigger, but Burke seems to have the more explosive ammunition, and I let you decide what you like better.

Finally we get to see Daniel again, who is again being tortured. nothing graphic, of course. We find out that the device (remember, in Part 1, they went down there for some Goa'uld device) has been turned on, and that people are going crazy. At least Mr. Kidnapper is, cause he shoots one of his fellow kidnappers, and Daniel panics a little becauseof that, but mainly because the device is working.
Daniel is brought back to the hut, and he plans his escape, by doing some MacGyver-like thing with his shoe, which gives us the opportunity to see a very cute little Daniel belly. *WANT.TO.TOUCH*
He succeeds, and runs out into the forest with Dr. Lee.
At this point, I'd like to draw your attention to the forest, which isn't as tropical as it appears to be. Imagine Peter DeLuise running through the Canadian forest with his crew, all of whom are carrying huge potted plants to make it look more tropical! The idea amused me a lot. *g*

On to your regular schedule:
Daniel and Dr. Lee are running through the forest. The bad guys are after them, so they have to run fast. The bad guys shoot at them.
At the other side of the forest, Jack and Burke hear the shots. They start running as well.

Daniel is running, Jack is running, shots are fired...it's all very dramatic, and very romantic.

Dr. Lee stays behind, Daniel gets shot in the leg, but at this moment, Jack appears and takes out all the bad guys. And then, after making sure that he really got them all, he kneels down at Daniel's side, pulls him into his arms and kisses him as if his life depended on it.
No, sadly that didn't happen. At least not on screen. But he kneels down at Daniel's side and asks if he is alright, and bandages Daniel's leg, and Daniel looks all confused, and dirty, and adorable with that stone in his hand, which is why I am so absolutely sure that Jack kissed him. How could he not?
Until the zombie (is that an English word?) appeared (the bad guy who was shot and revived by the device).
HeroJack shoots the zombie, but it doesn't work, so Burke has to save him with his explosive ammunition. Cause they needed some kind of excuse for the stuff, and I think Peter DeLuise likes big explosions.

Now we get the promised on-screen Jack/Daniel touching.
*does the happy Jack/Daniel slash dance again*
Daniel is saved, Jack is happy to have him back, they go to the next motel and have dirty, sweaty, HOT reunion sex.
The End

Oh wait! I forgot something! Sam and Teal'C blow up some parts of Anubis ship, Super Soldier uniforms look ridiculous when people are running in them (the shoulders bounce), Teal'C misses Jonas.
Also, Jacob uses the rings without a ring platform, and now we know why that isn't such a good idea. Bye bye, Super Soldier!

I liked how Teal'C said that his pride was hurt, because it should be hurt after that episode. He deserves better.
So does Carter, but at least she gets to have lunch with Jack at the very end of the episode.
For those of you who don't see the subtext:

JACK: "Miss me?"
SUBTEXT: How did the mission go? Admit that you would have liked me to be there with you. //fragile ego//)
I can't remember what Sam said.
JACK:"Lunch?"
SUBTEXT: I love Daniel, but I want you to know that we are still friends. And now tell me all about that mission so I won't have to read your boring report.

That's it, two Jack/Sam scenes full of subtext, and Jack and Daniel touching.
Sweaty and dirty Jack and Daniel touching.
I can't emphasize enough that there was touching.
Also, notice how Daniel got to be all dirty, unshaved and pretty in the sunlight, while Sam spend most of her time in dark rooms or weird green light on board of spaceships.
And there were looks! Daniel gives Jack a look at the scene where he explains about the device.
*does the happy Jack/Daniel touching and looking dance*

And let me remind you again of the end of Lifeboat, and the knowing look that Sam and Janet exchange when Daniel awakes and Jack smiles at him.
Looks! Touches!
Their love is so obvious!

Resume:
The ep was okay, the story was decent, but it seemed as if they tried to put too much into one episode. And even though I loved the slashiness of Jack's resue mission, I would have loved to see the whole team go after Daniel. That's how it should be.
And Jack and Daniel can still kiss, they just have to hide behind one of the fake palm trees.
