Work was very depressing. Everyone is nice, and I do have a lot to do. And yet, I sat in my office all day doing nothing.
Because after one week, they still haven't managed to give me computer access.
And you can only read so much before your head starts to explode and you need to write it down somewhere.
So I (and I'm really ashamed to admit this, but it's the truth, so there), read. Yes, I brought books with me and I sat in my office and read to keep my head from exploding from too much french law.
I read two CSI books, and I thought some of you might be interested in how liked them.
First of all, these books are rather short. 300 resp. 340 pages and very easy to read. It took me about three hours to read each of them, and in my eayes, that doesn't justify the price. But I was smart and bought them at ebay, 6 Euro for three books, which is a fair price.
The writing is okay. Lots of people on my flist write a lot better, but it wasn't bad, and it certainly is compatible with the masses, and they do want to sell these things after all. My one complaint is that the author is under the mistaken impression that Grissom has "boyishly handsome looks". I might see why some people find him handsome (I, despite my at times unhealthy attraction for older men, don't), but I really don't see the "boyish".
Anyway.
Both books are written by Max Allan Collins. The first one I read was
Just like the series, two cases are investigated at the same time. One plays in the the Las Vegas stripper menue, Sarah and Catherine are assigned to it. The other is a missing woman case, investigated by the rest of the team.
The Sarah/Catherine case is interesting, and both of them are written rather well. Catherine is a bit nicer than in the current season, which was a big plus for me. Sarah stays a bit paler, but she isn't ignored. There is one scene with Catherine and a lesbian that might interest some of you, though I didn't find it too exciting. Being at the office could be the cause of this.
I found the other case more interesting, maybe because the characters involved in it were introduced in more detail. Unfortunately, Nick, Grissom and Warrick stay rather pale. They are accessories in the investigation, but their personalities hardly matter. Some cute Warrick/Nick scenes. The real surprise was Brass, who was excellently written. The author did a really good job there.
Though they were both good, I liked this one better. Again, two cases are investigated simultaneously.
One at home in Las Vegas: a frozen body of a woman is found in the desert. The other one takes place in New York.
Sicen this would never happen on the show, it makes the book particularly attractive. The other thing that made me like it was the division of the team.
Sarah and Grissom go to New York (some CSI convention), Catherine, Nick and Warrick stay in LV and have hot threesomes whenever they find the time. Uhm, I meant work the case.
The author makes the Sarah/Grissom UST that I always failed to see on the show quite obvious, and I admit that it worked for me. So if you are a Sarah/Grissom fan (yes, I'm looking at you,
ashism), this is just the book for you.
To make a long story short: Sarah and Grissom get snowed in in their convention hotel in NY winter, they find a dead body and quite a few suspicious OCs, Grissom is jealous and tries to hide it, Sarah is more lovable (thougvh I'm one of what seem to be very few´fans who like Sarah on the show as well).
Back home in Las Veags, Catherine, Nick and Warrick still have sex. Uhm, work the case, I mean. Damn.
I can't really remember the case, I admit, because there were so many cute scenes between the three of them. Warrick notices what Catherine wears (coz he loves her, yes he does). and Nick and Warrick flirt. They really do, I'm not lying.
There is again a very good Brass, and Nick is so cute!
Nick: "Bad Boys, you know, Will Smith, Martin Lawrence - they are cops..."
Brass:" If they are cops, I'm a police dog."
or this:
Catherine:"You'll never guess who she is."
Nick: "Grissom doesn't let me guess."
So cute. You know, i'm beginning to think that after Nick broke up with Grissom in season 2 and started sleeping with Warrick and Catherine, he might have developed a slight crush on Brass. He does have a thing for father figures.
Anyway, if you like CSI and are searching for some easy and entertaining fiction, I can recommend both of these books, "Cold Burn" even more so.
Keep in mind that they are short. And unlike in fanfic, all the sex will be in your head. (*g*)
You know, it's actually quite nice to not have to wait for the obligatory sex scene for once.
I have one other CSI book that I haven't read yet, by the same author. I really hope that I'll be able to work Monday, but just in case I'm taking it with me.
Hey, it's not like I'm getting paid or anything.
