The NCIS slash list is really a very nice place. Lots of nice people there. No wank. A reasonable amount of posts.
So I shouldn't be complaining, I know.

The problem is: there seems to be a number of people in this fandom (and considering the small size of NCIS fandom, the number is rather large), who like their DiNozzo submissive and their Gibbs as a "master".

Uhm, no.
Really not.
Don't get me wrong, I like the thought of Tony on his knees servicing Gibbs. And I'm rather certain that Gibbs is dominant rather than submissive (unlike Jack, who'd happily crawl around for Daniel all day long, but the good Doctor isn't that kinky, and it's better for the knees not to). At least it will take a loooong time until Gibbs is comfortable enough with himself to find his submissive side.
So a bit of powerplay, some BDSM elements, sure. Gibbs is rather vanilla, but Tony will teach him.
Tony for example just waits to make Gibbs wear his uniform (Gibbs's, not Tony's) and act out some of his superior officer military fantasies, which will of course never happen, but we'll get to that later.
Not that it is really necessary, since Gibbs always stays "boss", even in bed, so DiNozzo gets his "superior officer" phantasy anyway.

Right, I'm losing track here. The part of fandom I was talking about seems to like Gibbs and DiNozzo in a Master/Slaver relationship. A new fic in that spirit was just posted today, but I read others before. Not to forget the Slave AU by an author who seems to be one of the BNF not only in NCIS fandom, which is understandale: she is very true to her characters (=they stay the same no matter which fandom she is writing in.)

And I just don't see it. I admit that I have trouble seeing any of my characters in that kind of relationship. It's not that I don't like to read it (I'll read kinky gay porn any time *dg*), but I don't see my characters that way.
Especially not DiNozzo.
See, that's the real problem: People forget that DiNozzo is a lot more Alpha than Gibbs. They see older guy/younger guy, and they think of Jim and Blair or Jack and Daniel, and they make the same mistakes with Tony as they did with Daniel and Blair. But in comparison to DiNozzo, Daniel and Blair are a lot less "alpha".
DiNozzo's behaviour seems like an act sometimes, but it isn't. There is no insecurity there, no doubt about the effect he has on woman.
The only insecurity DiNozzo ever shows is his fear that Gibbs doesn't like him, that he isn't satisfied with Tony's work.

Gibbs has a lot more insecurities than Tony (we'll get to that later), he just knows how to hide them. Tony?
So sure of himself that he doesn't even hide his insecurities.

And would someone like that really enter a Master/Slave relationship? I'm not saying that strong people can't submit or won't enjoy submitting. But wouldn't a "slave" seek this extreme kind of relationship to find some security, someone to steady him?
I just don't understand how a person like Tony would submit himself so totally to someone else - not only in the bedroom, but in daily life - giving away his choice to make his own decisions, to lead his own life. And there is absolutely no way he would let himself be humiliated, and most writers don't know how to walk the fine line between domination and humiliation.

Anyway, what prompted me to write about this was a typo in the fic that was posted today.
I know that many people see the submissive person as the weak one (which is totaly crap, of course), and a slash character who is weak is often seen as "female" (which is even more crap, of course). In light of that, I found this sentence very fitting:

It's just a new recipe." Tony smiled reassuringly, and took her own serving."

I guess if your subconscience makes you write Tony as a woman, you should consider changing your characterization a bit. Or stop writing altogether.

Though to be honest: in comparison with the shivering, crying "Gibbs doesn't like me I quit" Tony, I prefer the one who is wearing his collar and crawling around on his knees. At least he was given a choice to behave that way.

Btw, the ultimate Master/Slave "24/7" fic was written by Xanthe a long time ago, it's X-Files, Skinner/Mulder, and it is really really good. If you like that sort of fic.
