I give you a fair warning: I didn't like this episode. So don't expect any squeeing this time. And if you haven't seen it yet, you may want to skip this review, or it will spoil your fun.
Wow. That was unexpectedly boring.
So they've got a computer game that writes itself now? They could be rich enough to buy out the whole Galaxy, the Goa'uld shouldn't be a problem anymore.
Okay, I'm being a bit mean, but I was really bored. To my excuse, let me tell you taht I have never played a computer game in my life. Never. I never even owned a gameboy, though I admit that I am a bit addicted to Tetris whenever I can get my fingers on one. So an episode that takes place mainly in a virtual reality is bound too be not too interesting for me.
Anyway, let's see what happened.
We start with Supersoldier in the gateroom who shoots Jack. I knew immediately that this wasn't real, long before Jack appeared and got shot, because it was a Teal'c POV. We don't usually get Teal'c POVs. It is kind of sad really, that they are rare enough to tip me right off.
Then Teal'c saves the world and we switch back to our reality. Yada yada, gamekeeper technology, self-learning computer game, too easy etc. The plot is set up easily.
And then it begins: The game. And just like in a real computer game, it restarts every time you lose.
Ten gate room supersoldier scenes later...
We get back to the lab! Yay! Daniel is there, and Jack! :-) And Sam. :-(
Okay, I'm trying to be nice about this, and you all know that I usually like Sam. Hell, I'm really trying to be understanding here, but in this ep? I wanted to kill her.
It was arrogant scient bitch superteacher Sam! Her voice when she said to Teal'c:"Don't be so cocky?" *Strangels Sam*
That wasn't a funny little remark, that was the voice of an incredibly arrogant scientist whose latest project seemingly failed.
Later, when Jack has his bright idea of putting a second person in the game: "Sir, you may have done it again."
*kills Sam*
Is she really that arrogant? He knew that this was the solution, you don't have to tell him. It's just his way of saying these things, and Sam should damn well know that after working with him for seven years. And she claims to be in love with him? *laughs*
And then she tells Jack that the game would profit from his tactical experience, thus becoming more dangerous, so they send Daniel to save Teal'c. Because you know, Jack has been fighting the supersoldiers long before Daniel was even born. *rolls eyes*
The whole dialogue was incredibly stupid, apart from that one scene between Jack and Daniel and the scenes later, when Daniel enters the game.
Right. Trying to think positive. There were some good scenes. I liked that Teal'c didn't hesitate to shoot the Goa'ulded Daniel. I wonder of they have talked about this as a team, what they would want the others to do. Especially in the light of Sarah/Osiris rescue.
And Teal'c's emotions. He really saved that ep, and I feel sorry for him that the one time an ep is focused on him,m it is an otherwise boring ep. Well, I hope he knows that it wasn't his fault. (unless he wrote it. Hmm, he didn't, did he?)
We had some very good eps so far in this season, so I can forgive them for this one. But I can't forgive them for ruining Sam. So, regarding Sma, I'll pretend that this ep never happened and try to find my Sam-love again in the next ep. I won't let them ruin one of the few interesting female characters that TV has to offer these days.
