When I was a child, some of my friends where not allowed to read books by themselves. They had to read them with their parents, who would make sure they could understand them.
I never understood that as a child. I was allowed to read every book all by myself. I can't remember my parents ever telling me that I was too young for a certain book.
Which made me wonder: if I had children, would I let them read OotP?
Look at this little boy.
I almost feel sorry for him. I don't think OotP is a children's book. But mybe children read it differently, maybe they don't see what Rowling is describing, what it could lead to.
Also, it says in my copy, that the first book ia available in Latin. Which made me incredibly happy that I am not a child anymore. Think about how much reading Harry Potter in school would destroy that book!
Also, I will be able to read these books again and again, in five, ten or fifteen years from now. I don't think you can do that with books that have been a part of your childhood. Reading them again will never be the same as reading them when you were a child. I am still sad that I am not able to enjoy some of the books I loved as a child as much as I did then.
So, apart from being one of the best books I have read in a long long time, OotP also gave me a little optimism about my age!
I want to read it again! Dammit, I've got things to do, I can't!
